We are proud to announce we have joined the Firebug Working Group and published the Firebug Lite for Safari extension on the Apple Safari extensions gallery.
Firebug is a tool to help you develop and debug HTML, Javascript and CSS. Click on the Firebug Lite for Safari button while you browse, and instantly edit, debug and monitor the web page you are viewing.

I’m working on a mobile app using Sencha toolkit and trying to debug a suite of local files, HTML, Javascript, CSS, etc, Firebug button does not activate the toolbar at the bottom at all. Using latest Safari (Version 5.1.2 (7534.52.7)) on brand new Mac Book Pro running latest version Lion. Seriously would like this tool to work as enough obstacles to jump over as it is. I suppose I can only resolve quickly by copying all my work to a web server.
So it appears that this plugin is not working in Safari 5.2 on all ssl pages, as well as a handful of other sites (i.e. my.yahoo.com). All other pages seem fine, however it is not very helpful when I am doing development within encrypted areas. Will there be a fix soon?
I have firebug 1.2.0.16797(what’s up with the crazy version number?) installed on Safari 5.1.1 and whenever I click on the firebug button nothing happens at all?
Any other reports of this?
Works perfectly on firefox but I prefer using Safari.
Any advice?
Nevermind, it magically started working.
Just added to Safari 5.1.1 running on Win 7 / 64 – seems to work ok Have not checked it out in real developer mode. But have been using Firebug on FireFox for years. Glad to see more tools for Safari. Thanks.
Can’t seem to get FireBug to work! Using Safari 5.1 on Mac OS X 10.6.8 and there is no response when I click the FireBug button. I’ve reloaded all my tabs and still nothing. Help please!!!
Could you please let us know on which websites it is not working? We’ve been testing under safari 5.1 with no problem…
Not working for me either.
Safari Version 5.1 (7534.48.3)
Firebug 1.2.0.16797
There are certain conditions where hitting the Firebug button won’t bring up the Firebug frame below.
If I can get Firebug to open, I can always get it to close if the URL I am hitting has a 404 redirect. This is bad because that is what I am trying to troubleshoot right now
Could you please let us know on which websites it is not working? Mac OS X or Windows? We’ve been testing under safari 5.1 with no problem…
And do you have an example for the 404 case so that we can try and see if we can do something?
Thanks!
Does this work with Safari 5.1 now? I just try and installed but nothing happen
Doesn’t seem to work for local pages. While visiting http://www.-sites everything is fine. For local files fireBug did not open…
I can’t get it to work on local files either, but it works on remote sites.
Any ideas on how to overcome this.
Otherwise, a great extension
Don’t bother downloading it and installing it’s not working with Safari 5.0.5. You keep pressing the firebug button and nothing happens.
Hi,
please make sure you reload your current Safari tabs after installing Firebug Lite for Safari. It will not work otherwise, because of a Safari limitation.
If it still doesn’t work, please let us know.
“Does this work with Safari 5.0.4?”
My question too. I see no activity in clicking the Firebug Lite icon.
Can you please confirm you’ve updated Firebug Lite to version 1.2.0.16797 ?
Does this work with Safari 5.0.4?
Hi, we just updated Print Plus to support Safari 5.0.4. Please let us know if you have any pb.
I can’t resize the firebug screen size…
it does show the indicator but doesn’t work.
Hi, this plug-in does not show in joomla css sites thx
Great stuff!!!
- Webkit’s inspector is good but still got a way to get up
to Firebug’s functionality
I try to drag the right column over to enlarge but
I only get curser change into a blue arrow
How to re-size the CSS column?
I’m having a weird hover issue with the native HTML5 video controls and Firebug Lite. While hovering the controls turn on/off like it doesn’t register the hover correctly. Disabling the extension fixes it.
It does not seem to work for SSL pages. The firebug button is enabled, but the toolbar does not display. Any tips?
It’s good.
But it is permanently at the bottom of the page (Safari 5.0.3). I can’t click it away. If i do it an open another site it’s although there. That isn’t usefull.
Please change it, and it’ll be great.
Have you tried clicking on the firebug button on top of the browser, to close the firebug window ?
It’s a display toggle button.
Glad to see this on Safari – well done.
Seems to be an issue resizing the FB frame though.
yes, that’s actually a technical limitation of extensions on safari!
